Gatekeeper’s Retreat is conveniently located at the edge of Historic Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake, close enough to walk to the main street, but just far enough to be away from the downtown related crowds.

Upon arrival, you will surely notice the European flair of the facade and pathway as you make your way to the local limestone portico; an avant-goût of what you will find inside. Opening the door to the main level, an inviting foyer awaits under the high ceiling staircase. To the right, your tastefully decorated breakfast room, including our beloved collection of loose herbs, mushrooms and barks, accompanied of course by all the necessary infusion conveniences to properly enjoy your custom herbal tea creation! Every morning, as you sit down comfortably around the elegantly dressed wooden table, you will surely meet new friends while enjoying our daily breakfast offerings.

Go up the grand staircase to discover The Library on the mezzanine complete with comfortable wingback chairs, an antique leather couch and an oversized chess table for your enjoyment. The Chamber and The Boudoir bedrooms, both complete with their own ensuite bathrooms, are adjacent as well as the coffee room.

Follow the music to the bottom of the stairs and take a break in The Persnickety Lounge for a while. Classic old tunes playing from the 1940’s Victrola radio and crystal glassware display at the bar are always available to help you savour your latest herbal infusion masterpiece or indulge in this special bottle you brought back from your day of adventures in Niagara wine country. The inside entrance to The Hermitage, which has its own private living room and direct access to the back garden, is also located on that same level.

The garden at the back of the house is a lovely place to unwind and relax under the corkscrew willows. Let your instinct be your guide to your perfect little spot: the main stone terrace, the river stone circle, the lounge chair’s corner or the hammock haven.
